Interested in serving as an AIAS officer?

If you are interested in serving as an AIAS officer for the 2010-2011 school year, please fill out the officer application that you received in your Texas A&M email.  You can return the application to any current AIAS officer or bring it to the general meeting on Wednesday, March 24, at 6:00 pm in C307.  We will be electing officers this month!  You will need to be a paid AIAS member by next fall to serve as an officer.  Here are our officer positions:

  • President
  • Vice-president
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Career Fair Coordinator
  • Career Fair Assistant
  • Career Fair Assistant
  • Webmaster/Historian
  • Social Chair
  • Freedom By Design Chair

AIAS meeting tomorrow: IDP

Join AIAS in C307 on Wednesday, March 24, at 6:00 pm for a presentation on NCARB’s Intern Development Program (IDP).  IDP is the mandatory program through which all architect-hopefuls must progress in order to be licensed.  This is relevant information for anyone who might be a licensed architect someday!  As always, dinner will be served at the meeting.

John Rife Torkelson

AIAS this week will feature a talk by John Rife Torkelson, founder of theACCESSpartnership in Austin.  Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10, in ARCC307 at 6:00 pm for food, friends, and a short talk.  We’ll also be selling College of Architecture t-shirts at the meeting.

Interested in serving as an AIAS officer next year?  We invite you to attend all of our general meetings, but we especially suggest you attend the March 10 meeting, where we’ll be discussing officer elections for the 2010-2011 school year.

AIAS this week!

AIAS will hold its first meeting of the spring semester tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27, in ARC C307 at 6 pm.  We’ll be getting a Career Fair run-down from our Career Fair officers, and Firehouse Subs will be served for dinner!  Even if you’re not a current member of AIAS, come join us and find out how you can get in on the fun this semester.

Here’s what you can look forward to this spring:

  • T-shirt sales: 1st floor of A-building, from 11-1 on select Wednesdays (including tomorrow).
  • Career Fair: Feb. 4-5, in the A-building foyer.  Contact a Career Fair officer for more information.
  • Big Event: Mar. 27, the biggest one-day community service event in the nation!
  • Shack-a-thon: Apr. 12-16, in front of Kyle Field. Come join AIAS in our shack.
  • Officer elections: late March. This is your chance to be part of the AIAS officer team!

Meeting change this week!

This week, instead of a usual Tuesday night meeting, AIAS invites all of its members to attend the Thursday-night portion of the Bonfire Heritage Conference.  Attendance is free.  The event starts at 6 pm in the Geren Auditorium in Langford B.  Bob Shemwell will be speaking about the Bonfire Memorial.
If you are interested in attending the rest of the conference, there are two other events on Friday.  At noon, lunch will be served outside of Geren auditorium, and at 7 pm, Frank Cox, a former Aggie yell leader, will be speaking in Geren Auditorium.

Also, remember that Bonfire Remembrance day is Wednesday, November 18th.

Our last general AIAS meeting for the semester will be December 1.

AIAS Art Sale

On December 4, the Texas A&M AIAS will be hosting an art sale (silent auction style) as part of the First Friday festivities in Bryan.  The art will consist of donations from students and community members, and each artist will receive a portion of the proceeds.  The rest of the proceeds will be used to sponsor a speaker in the Spring ‘10 College of Architecture lecture series.  Art donations can consist of any past studio projects or personal work.  Donations are due by November 30th to the first studio on the 4th floor of Langford A.  Please join in on this exciting fundraiser!

Meeting news

In case you missed the last AIAS meeting, here is a brief update of the activities we’re currently involved in:

  • T-shirt sales.  We released a new t-shirt design a couple of weeks ago, so stop by our table on the 1st floor of Langford A to check it out for yourself!  We’re still selling the original College of Architecture shirts, in addition to the new design.  Shirts are $12 or 2 for $20.  We sell shirts on Mondays and Tuesdays from 11:30-1:30.
  • Fundraising.  AIAS has been invited to sponsor a speaker in the Spring ‘10 College of Architecture lecture series.  We are brainstorming fundraising ideas for the sponsorship; we have tenatively established pizza sales and a student art auction as fundraisers.  Be on the look out for more info about each of these exciting ventures.
  • Bonfire Conference.  The 2009 Bonfire Heritage Conference will be hosted at Langford on Nov. 19-20.  Visit the conference website for more information.

The next general AIAS meeting will be Tuesday, November 17.  Check the website or flyers around Langford for more information.
